Wellness Forever

Project Summary

The project aimed to develop a white-label e-commerce application for retail pharmacy shops in India, starting with Wellness Forever and later extending to other brands. This initiative addressed the challenge faced by small to mid-sized pharmacy chains, allowing them to enter the e-commerce space affordably and efficiently.

Problem

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, small to mid-sized pharmacy chains in India, typically operating with 3-10 branches, face significant challenges in entering the e-commerce market. Developing and maintaining a proprietary e-commerce platform is both cost-prohibitive and time-consuming for these businesses. This results in a competitive disadvantage, as they struggle to meet the growing consumer demand for online pharmaceutical services. There is a critical need for an affordable, scalable, and easily customizable e-commerce solution that allows these pharmacy chains to efficiently transition to the online marketplace without the burden of extensive technical overhead.







Target Audience

The primary audience for this e-commerce application includes small to mid-sized pharmacy chains, encompassing business owners and managers who seek to establish an online presence with their own branding. These stakeholders are interested in an affordable, efficient e-commerce platform that can be customized to reflect their brand identity. Additionally, the end users—customers who use the application to purchase medicines and other generic products— constitute a crucial segment of the target audience. This group values a seamless, user-friendly online shopping experience for their pharmaceutical and wellness needs.







Objective

The objective was to create an e-commerce app as a white-label product with easy customization options for branding and minor functional adjustments. The goal was to streamline the user experience based on the specific needs and workflows of pharmacy operations, ensuring broad applicability across small and mid-sized pharmacy chains without the burden of database management and extensive maintenance.







Challenges & Limitations

Initial Client-Specific Requirements: Developing initially for Wellness Forever provided insights into diverse client needs, leading to the evolution of a white-label solution.

Aggregating Retailer Requirements: Consolidating varied retailer requirements into a unified application posed challenges, necessitating a flexible and scalable architecture.

Brand Adaptation and Scalability: Enabling rapid branding changes and ensuring scalability without compromising performance demanded meticulous planning and execution.

Insights

The research provided valuable insights that shaped the development of the white-label e-commerce application:

  • Prescription Requirements: All retail chains require prescriptions for Rx products but not for Non-Rx products. This distinction helped us design a unified flow that accommodates both product types seamlessly.

  • Simple Functionality and Branding: Many retailers expressed the need for a straightforward functionality for purchasing products and branding their retail chain. This feedback guided us in creating a standard user flow architecture that meets their expectations without overcomplicating the process.

  • Reordering Medicines: Customers who buy prescription-based medicines often reorder them monthly or as advised by their doctors. This behavior highlights the importance of features that support easy reordering, helping retail chains retain customers and build loyalty.

  • Minimalistic User Interface: End users preferred a simple and minimalistic interface, as pharmaceutical apps can often be overwhelming with excessive information. This insight led us to design a user-friendly, intuitive app that provides essential information without causing confusion.





Solution

A customizable e-commerce platform empowering pharmacy chains to seamlessly blend online convenience with their unique brand identity.


The solution, based on insights and research with retailers and end users, includes the following key features:

  • White-Label Customization : Customization options for headers, font color, icons, and logos which helps in easy rebranding to reflect the unique identity of each pharmacy chain.

  • Prescription and Non-Prescription Products: Seamless flow for purchasing both Rx (prescription required) and Non-Rx products, ensuring compliance and ease of use.

  • Product Categorization: Organized categorization of all Non-Rx products to help consumers navigate and search for required products more efficiently.

  • Monthly Reorder Reminders: Features to support customers in reordering their prescription medicines on a monthly basis, enhancing customer retention and loyalty.

  • Order History: Easy access to past orders, enabling quick reorders and streamlined user experience. In-App Support: Access to customer support within the app for assistance with orders, prescriptions, and other queries.

  • User Verification: Secure user verification processes for prescription purchases, maintaining trust and compliance. These key features ensure the white-label e-commerce application effectively meets the needs of both pharmacy chains and their customers, providing a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Next Steps & Future Scope

User Insights and Enhancement: Initial research focused on retail chains as primary customers, limiting end-user research time. Comprehensive interviews with users now crucial to refine and enhance the product based on their needs.

Continuous Enhancement: Regular updates based on user feedback and business evolution maintain platform efficiency. This includes new features, enhanced security, standardized features, and UI optimization from real user interactions.

Scalability and Performance: Critical as user base expands, ensuring seamless scaling without performance issues. Ongoing monitoring and optimization maintain excellent user experience.
